Cookie Exchange 2015

Thank you Carol for hosting this cooking exchange.  I love to bake cookies and I love to collect recipes so this is right up my alley.  I have been making this recipe about 45 years.  It is a family favorite and taste better after sitting in an air tight container a few days.  I'v never frozen them.

Butter Spritz Cookies

(Have all ingredients at room temperature)
Mix together:
1 lb. Butter
1 1/3 cup Sugar
2 teaspoon Vanilla
6 Egg Yolks
Add and mix with hand:
5 cups flour

Dough should be very soft and room temp. Use a cookie press with flower design or roll in  small balls and press down with palm.  Place 1/2 maraschino cherry in the center.

Bake at 400 for about 7 minutes.  Cookies should be set but not brown.  Watch carefully, they

burn very quickly.  Cool on a wire rack and enjoy these festive little melt in your mouth jewels.  Enjoy!!!

  7. I love spritz cookies as well. These remind me of cookies that we would have at my grandmother's house. It's amazing the connections we make with cookies, isn't it?

  8. My mother-in-law has a tradition of making these each year with kids/grandkids/great-grandkids. She uses gumdrops, and the kids have a blast. She also calls them jewels. Thanks for your recipe!

  10. I'm sure I've tried these cookies before...if not, I know they'll be good! Everything else I ate at your house as a kid was always good! I'll have to give these a try. My boys would love them!

  13. Oh my goodness, Brenda! My son (he is an only) has two food passions....his nana's spritz cookies and maraschino cherries! One time he asked his nana to make him a cherry pie with them :) He will LOVE these cookies. Thank you for this variation on an old favorite. I can't wait to get to California to make them!

  14. Those look yummy. My hubby was going through a cupboard and asked what is this (cookie press) I had to explain to him how it worked. I may have to whip some up for the little men this weekend.
